摘要: The rising incidence of melanoma in children has brought increased attention to the clinical and pathologic diagnosis pigmented lesions pediatric age group. Although infancy early childhood is often associated with large congenital nevi, older teenagers it most sporadic, occurring patients a low skin phototype substantial sun exposure. rarity this potentially fatal disorder demands astute high index suspicion for atypical patients. challenges include difficult decision whether biopsy an equivocal diagnosis. These diagnostically challenging lead degree uncertainty regarding additional workup, prognosis, potential therapy, follow-up plans. Consultation specialty dermatopathologist can be very helpful, advanced molecular diagnostic techniques may used selected circumstances. still controversial, good evidence exists justify role sentinel lymph node biopsy. Patients melanocytic proliferations have rate positive nodes; however, their outcomes are clearly better than similarly staged adults conventional melanoma. With multiple variables involved relative lack prospectively derived evidence, decision-making families experience considerable stress. This article provides data weighs pros cons rationale young adult lesions.
