摘要: The barley (Hordeum vulgare) spike exists in two alternative forms: six-rowed or rowed. genetic basis of this difference lies the single gene Vrs1, recessive allele which is responsible for phenotype. encodes a homeodomain-leucine zipper I class transcription factor. Its paralog HvHox2 well conserved among cereals, whereas Vrs1 acquired its function after speciation barley. To determine whether it mode expression neofunctionalization accounts action comparative analysis was carried out between and Vrs1. This revealed that HvHOX2 VRS1 share same transcriptional activation activity. In situ hybridization showed mRNA concentrated vascular bundles immature spike, message deposited exclusively pistil, lemma, palea, lodicule lateral spikelets. transcript abundance over 10-fold higher than during pistil developmental stage, suggesting key to inhibit gynoecial development. An mutants are non-allelic vrs1 up-regulated by Vrs4, not. These data demonstrate most likely divergence has determined
