DRIFT BOTTLE OBSERVATIONS OF THE NEARSHORE SURFACE CIRCULATION OFF CALIFORNIA, 1977-1983

摘要: This report summarizes results of drift bottle studies off the California coast from June 1977 through September 1983. Approximately 2,000 bottles were released and 253 recovered. The indicate that there are important seasonal, regional, year-toyear var-iations showing a complicated pattern nearshore surface flow California. North Point Conception, southward predominates, except in fall winter when northward is apparent. Anomalous summer counterflows vicinity headlands occur some years. There also evidence an intensified northward-flowing countercurrent winters 1977-78 1979-80, strong spring reversal 1980. South circulation characterized by large variability direction flow, with indications eddy area between Santa Catalina Island mainland. RESUMEN
