摘要: Microalgae present great potential to replace land crops for the efficient production of large volumes biomass food, feed, fuels, and chemicals, as well treat wastewater capture carbon. However, commercialization these technologies bulk commodities requires a reduction in current microalgal cost. The bioreactor is core bioprocess engineering premise commercial application certain types biotechnology. challenges phototrophic cultivation are completely different from those heterotrophic processes because efficiency limited by energy density input sunlight inorganic carbon supply. Thus, development microalgae with low manufacturing operating costs key addressing this problem, floating photobioreactors (PBRs) promising solution. PBRs deployed on water surface without any requirements, wave provides free mixing energy. Additionally, surrounding can be used control culture temperature supply nutrients growth. In mini-review, their recent progress presented. effect approach scaling-up critically discussed. limitations applications analysed, need future research proposed. Finally, it noted that farming ocean solution human society address challenge space exhaustion due global population boom.
