摘要: * The hypothesis that zinc (Zn) hyperaccumulation defends Thlaspi caerulescens against herbivores is tested with the snail Helix aspersa. We investigated effects of leaf zinc, cadmium, glucosinolate, nitrogen and dry matter concentrations on feeding preferences snails. Four T. populations from southern France (two metalliferous two normal soils) were grown low- high-Zn soils to obtain contrasting Zn concentrations. Plants also collected in field, binary choices involving leaves conducted. Foliar Zn, Cd, N did not affect snails, whereas glucosinolate had a significant negative effect herbivore preferences. Compared metallicolous plants, nonmetallicolous ones appeared be better protected whatever their concentration. These results do support defence hypothesis, as glucosinolates appear decrease degree herbivory when does not.
