摘要: SUMMARY : Deforestation and fragmentation of native forests is dangerouslyincreasing around the world. These processes change landscape structure, affecting persistence populations. Here, we analyzed deforestation andfragmentation ruil forest, a temperate endemic formation restricted to100 km coastal range Central Chile. Between 1981 1991, more than50 % forest has been lost, mainly due to expansion plantations ofMonterey pine. Currently, 352 ha conforms an "archipielago"with many small, regular fragments few large, irregular ones, relativelyisolated, surrounded by matrix pine plantations. Only 45 are underformal protection. This situation critical because direct indirect effects ofdeforestation imply, in short term, loss species awhole unique ecosystem. Therefore, today management isunsustainable. In Chile, ecology should be further developed andapplied for sustainable regional which conciliates theinterests both industry conservationists.
