摘要: Campaigns raise public interest in politics and allow parties to convey their messages voters. However, voters’ exposure attention during campaigns are biased towards candidates they like. This hinders parties’ ability reach new paper theorises empirically tests a simple way which can break partisan selective attention: owning an issue. When own issues that important for voter, voter is more likely notice them. Using survey data collected prior the 2009 Belgian regional elections it shown this effect exists independent of preferences while controlling absolute visibility party media. indicates issue ownership has impact on campaigns. finding shows salient yields (potential) advantages parties, since getting noticed prerequisite conveying electoral increasing success.
