Fishing behaviour in the long-fingered bat Myotis capaccinii (Bonaparte, 1837): an experimental approach

摘要: Abstract To study the fishing behaviour of Myotis capaccinii, we performed an experiment in a flight tent containing artificial pond. We recorded two groups bats — eight individuals from different roosts using IR video camcorders and ultrasound detectors, evaluated diet by analyzing faeces. Nightly, increasing amounts fish were released Our data show that M. capaccinii is able to exhibit when occur high densities shallow waters, gaffing live water their hind feet. They attracted neither dead floating, nor ripples made fishes feeding on surface. Bats showed specific with main foraging patterns: A) long series circular flights, skimming along dipping softly twice or three times each roundabout; B) figure-eight loops flying faster higher, swooping down centre pond, where they snapped feet hard ...
