摘要: Functional disability is common in older adults. It often episodic and associated with a high risk of subsequent health decline. The severity determined by physical impairments caused underlying medical conditions, external factors such as social support, financial the environment. When multiple conditions are present, they result greater than expected because patient’s ability to compensate for one problem may be affected comorbid conditions. Evaluation functional most effective when physician determines course disability, symptoms, effects on specific activities, coping mechanisms patient uses problem. Underlying impairments, contextual (e.g., finances, support) should identified using validated screening tools. Interventions focus increasing capacity cope task demands reducing itself. decline adults almost always multifactorial must address factors.
