摘要: • Smith, Glass, and Miller examined the benefits of psychotherapy in 475 controlled studies. Their data were reexamined, only studies patients coded as having neuroses, true phobias, emotional-somatic complaints who had sought treatment included present analysis. The results 81 trials integrated statistically using metaanalytic technique. findings provide further evidence on efficacy psychotherapy. condition typical patient after was better than that 77% untreated controls measured at same time. rate relapse first two years small. behavior psychodynamic verbal therapies appeared to be superior other therapies. relation between severity illness choice therapy is unknown. This factor could account for some differential effects but does not vitiate main finding.
