E.N. Economou and the metal-to-insulator transition

摘要: Abstract In this paper, I interweave a brief history of the metal-to-insulator (MI) transition with summary E.N. Economou's related work. Those periods during which we overlapped are emphasized. describe his activities as graduate student at Chicago. A MI follows, setting stage for discussion pioneering contributions in early 1970s to theory localization electrons, phonons, and photons disordered materials; studies Mott–Hubbard transition; work he did 1980s Exxon collaborators. After few observations on current state our understanding transitions, paper concludes contributions.
