摘要: The Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), first established by the UK University Grants Committee in 1985 has been an important instrument modernisation of higher education UK. It is a means rationalising stratification universities and concentration research resources, maximising output. At same time, while its operation remains substantially under professional control, it had profound implications for academic profession. article explores these through analysing workings RAE consequences institutions, departments individuals. suggests that triggered substantial changes management function culture university departments. disturbed web relationship between individual academic, discipline, department institution. impacted on identities concepts responsibilities.
