Perception of Plastic Surgery and the Role of Media Among Medical Students: Cross-Sectional Study.

摘要: Background: Although plastic surgery has been gaining a lot of popularity recently, there seems to be limited perception and poor understanding this field by both medical professionals, including students, the general public. This might alter referral patterns as well students’ choice pursue career in surgery. Objective: The purpose study was assess knowledge among students explore influencing factors underlying particular beliefs. Methods: Data for cross-sectional were collected between August 22 December 22, 2017. questionnaire formulated on basis our own objectives from available questionnaires with similar objectives. It composed 14 questions divided into three main parts: demographics, specialty surgery, media involvement its effect conducted via an online all years at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. considered significant P<.05. All analyses performed using SPSS, version 20. Results: A total 886 participated study. We achieved response rate 56.79%. mean age participants 21.2 years. awareness score 9.7 (SD 4.2) female 8.3 male (P<.001). condition most commonly known treated surgeon burns (70.3% responses). Conclusions: Medical do not have adequate early exposure may enhance their awareness.
