Disclosure of HIV status to children in resource-limited settings: a systematic review

摘要: Introduction: Informing children of their own HIV status is an important aspect long-term disease management, yet there little evidence how and when this type disclosure takes place in resource-limited settings its impact. Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE Cochrane Databases were searched for the terms hiv AND disclos* (child* OR adolesc*). We reviewed 934 article citations references relevant articles to find describing adolescents settings. Data extracted regarding prevalence disclosure, factors influencing process impact on caregivers. Results: Thirty-two met inclusion criteria, with 16 reporting disclosure. Of these studies, proportions disclosed ranged from 0 69.2%. Important included child’s age perceived ability understand meaning infection related caregivers, such as education level, openness about beliefs children’s capacities. Common barriers fear that child would disclose others, stigma concerns emotional or physical health. Disclosure was mostly led by caregivers conceptualized a one-time event, while others described it gradual process. Few studies measured children.
