摘要: Lithium has been known for 167 years, but used in modern psychiatric therapy only the past 35 years. The metal was discovered by Johann Auguste Arfwedson 1817 while he working famous Swedish chemist Baron Jons Jakob Berzelius. They were analyzing mineral petalite, at beginning of that century a Brazilian, Jose Bonifacio de Andrada e Silva. initially failed to identify about 4% sample petalite obtained from Island Uto. By changing his method analysis, salt had low solubility. This turned out be carbonate, and concluded it an unknown metal; Berzelius proposed name lithion, since found rock. In 1801, Louis Nicolas Vauquelin analyzed spodumene predicted existence another component, unable account 10% composition mineral. subsequently showed lithium present lepidolite, both ores.
