摘要: The use of mice as laboratory animals continues to be an important part biomedical research. Due the availability a wide range different transgenic strains and knockout mice, this has strongly increased over last years. This usage resulted in demand for several experimental techniques these small animals. collection blood is technique plays central role Blood can sampled from number ways. Acute sampling, such orbital puncture tail cutting, require chemical or physical restraint resulting serious physiological responses which interfere with outcome experiment. Permanent cannulation jugular vein allows undisturbed multiple withdrawal without compromising responses. size animal, vessels requires microsurgical techniques. Basic knowledge anatomy, planning surgery, aseptic technique, tissue handling surgical instruments are needed. Furthermore, success will depend on cannula design. Proper tipdesign accurate placement result patency defined ability infuse fluids withdraw samples period time. Increased because amount circulating prolong time between sampling. volume also limits removed per sample. These considerations accordance three R’s - replacement, reduction refinement animal research advocated by Russell Burch 1959. chapter presents detailed description permanent acute carotid artery.
