摘要: Bacterial transformation, transduction, and “conjugation” can be considered the first horizontal transfer mechanisms in living organisms; these have occurred since origin of bacteria are still current. Although mechanistically quite different, three processes aim to achieve main objective all cells, ability survive adapt new environments. Transformation, implement DNA recombination, creating genetic diversity and, hence, allowing acquire capabilities evolve, resulting additional, improved, environmental adaptations that enhance bacterial survival. This chapter summarizes old paradigms novel findings includes latest research on recently described vesicle-mediated communication mechanism.
