摘要: Insect life stages are known imperfectly in many cases, and classifications based often on only one or a few semaphoronts of species. This is unfortunate as information alternative useful for scientific study. Although recent examples DNA taxonomy have emphasized the identification indistinguishable species, such sequence data facilitate association history hold considerable promise phylogenetic analysis, evolutionary studies, diagnostics, etc. These concepts discussed here an example provided from diving beetles (Dytiscidae: Coleoptera). Three unknown larval specimens apparent species Laccophilinae collected Namibia were associated with Philodytes umbrinus (Motschulsky) using data. An 806-bp portion gene cytochrome oxidase I was sequenced larvae. Several identified adult also sequenced, including two P. four Laccophilus Leach Additional other areas world Agabetes acuductus (Harris), Australphilus saltus Watts, Neptosternus boukali Hendrich & Balke Laccodytes Regimbart. Parsimony analysis resulted most parsimonious trees larva unambiguously resolved group both (bootstrap value = 100%). The average pairwise p-distance between averaged 0.09% (0-0.14%), compared divergence conspecifics 0.24% (0-0.82%) overall 13.49% (1.90-19.86%). Based this, larvae assigned to umbrinus. diagnosed described their relationship discussed.
