Cross-Border Collaboration in River Management: Views on Participation in a Dutch-German Case Study

摘要: Integrated river basin management (IRBM) calls for participatory practices involving stakeholders along transnational landscapes. Understanding the complex and diverse views regarding participation is a prerequisite meaningful involvement of civil actors, especially in context. In case study Lower Rhine river, we assessed compared cognitive perceptions towards IRBM citizen initiatives nature organizations from Germany Netherlands their previous experiences with processes. We found large differences between four actor groups motivations to participate as well levels trust institutions. This also showed different on two countries regard problem definition, images perceived relationships government organisations one hand other hand. The findings suggest that vary within country cultural notions add complexity participation. processes, varying should be taken into account, complexities among even groups.
