CommunityNet: mediating care at the local community level

摘要: Community care is expected to be increasingly important for seniors in need of support towards prolonged independent living and higher quality life. Whereas people generally indicate they are willing provide within their community, several barriers prevent elderly from asking support. The present paper describes the design CommunityNet, a social network service that aims bring together local community lower help. Based on findings user research, ambient awareness displays were developed placed homes members. showed an overview people, requests help, status requests. concept was evaluated field trial (n=4, 10 days). participants indicated preferred using CommunityNet compared face-to-face contact telephone when not urgent. According participants, help lowered by system. As next step, automated match-maker mechanism will which enables extend network, system tested range communities.
