摘要: BACKGROUND A nationwide trend toward "centers of excellence" for medical and surgical care has led to development scrutiny high-volume specialty centers. The prevalence hernias the complexity successful repair have establishment practices. Herein we review discuss components a tertiary hernia referral center. METHODS Literature on impact centers was reviewed, including authors' own practice. Factors outcomes concerning coordination, development, funding, staffing center were discussed tabulated. RESULTS After or excellence, institutions reported an increase in case volume, complexity, patient comorbidity, area from which patients will travel. Driving factors this practice are varied include team improvement preoperative factors, assessment, among others. CONCLUSIONS Establishment often includes institution participation, expertise, interdisciplinary collaboration, ongoing evaluation outcomes. Success may be marked by increased volume referrals, but it is most evidenced improved
