摘要: Objective To evaluate, in a prospective study, the accuracy of predicting presence or absence unilateral bilateral impalpable testes from clinical examination, particularly whether contralateral descended testis (CDT) is hypertrophied. Patients and methods Whether ipsilateral scrotal appendages were palpable, size CDT, determined before surgery series patients, compared with age-matched controls. Between 1992 2000, 100 86 consecutive patients (mean age at orchidopexy 45 months, range 6–223; 66% <36 months) evaluated treated. In addition to palpable appendages, when present, intraoperative findings recorded. Logistic regression analysis was used model probability testis, as by preoperative alone. Results Of that located surgery, 50 (58%) intracanalicular, 28 (32%) intra-abdominal remainder (10%) superficial inguinal pouch. Of 13 ‘vanishing syndrome’, atrophic testicle intracanalicular nine, upper scrotum three only one. All viable successfully relocated scrotum, one after surgery. The positive predictive value (PPV, 95% confidence interval) being present CDT not hypertrophied 0.93 (0.83–0.97). Conversely, PPV absent 0.95 (0.64–0.99). Conclusion When evaluating surgically treating testes, no hypertrophy associated 93% likelihood discovering can be scrotum. cannot palpated hypertrophied, there 96% (vanishing syndrome).
