摘要: During the earliest stages of Caenorhabditis elegans embryogenesis, transcription factor SKN-1 initiates development digestive system and other mesendodermal tissues. Postembryonic functions have not been elucidated. binds to DNA through a unique mechanism, but is distantly related basic leucine-zipper proteins that orchestrate major oxidative stress response in vertebrates yeast. Here we show despite its distinct mode target gene recognition, similarly resist C. elegans. postembryonic stages, regulates key Phase II detoxification constitutive stress-inducible mechanisms ASI chemosensory neurons intestine, respectively. present nuclei under normal conditions, accumulates intestinal stress. skn-1 mutants are sensitive shortened lifespans. represents connection between developmental specification one most functions, resistance xenobiotic This thus appears be both widely conserved ancient, suggesting role was predated by function these mechanisms.
