摘要: Today, type I allergies affect more than 30% of the population in western industrialized countries posing an increasing burden on public health systems. In this book chapter we provide overview molecular characteristics allergens and mechanisms allergic sensitization. Risk factors for sensitization such as genetic predisposition or environmental (“hygiene hypothesis”) are discussed current standards diagnosis medication summarized. As classical allergen-specific immunotherapy suffers from unwanted side-effects, low patient compliance well insufficient efficacy, focuses novel therapeutic approaches to overcome these limitations. These include new molecules, recombinant (hypo-) peptides but also advanced vector vaccines, vaccines. Such vaccine types address specific receptors innate immune system, resulting increased immunogenicity modulation TH2 responses. Finally, alternative routes standard subcutaneous injection sublingual application presented, which target highly immunocompetent tissues skin lymph nodes.
