摘要: Hippocampal volume varies both among and within species (between the sexes). This variation can be attributed to effects of natural selection (between, perhaps, species) development experience (within between individuals). The significant selective pressure appears have been demand for spatial ability (e.g., navigational skills). Experience in responding problems also affect hippocampal morphology, as do hormones, particularly gonadal hormones estrogen testosterone. sex steroids seen most strikingly mammals their long-lasting impact via action during prenatal development.
