摘要: Abstract The mitigation of climate change requires a fundamental transition the energy system. Affordability, reliability and reduction greenhouse gas emissions constitute central but often conflicting targets for this transition. Against context, we reveal limitations counter-intuitive results in model-based optimization systems, which are applied policy advice. When system costs minimized presence CO2 cap, efficiency gains free part allowing cheap technologies to replace expensive low-emission technologies. Even more striking observed setup where budget constraint. Increasing prices can oust clean, out system, eventually lead higher emissions. These effects robustly occur models different scope complexity. Hence, extreme care is necessary application avoid misleading
