摘要: Objective To review the current evidence on mechanism of actions and clinical applications maggot debridement therapy. Data sources Literature search PubMed Medline was performed up to January 2007. Study selection Original major articles related therapy were reviewed. Key words used in literature 'maggot therapy', 'wound healing', 'chronic wound management'. extraction All relevant English Chinese articles. synthesis The such shown be due debridement, disinfection, healing enhancement excretions/secretions. efficacy chronic management has been demonstrated venous ulcers, pressure diabetic ulcers. There is also a new delivery system for excretions/secretions, which as effective using live maggots. Conclusions Maggot safe means management. However, there are number limitations when considering its local applicability. Future development may help overcome some these improve acceptability.
