摘要: Woolly flying squirrel (Eupetaurus cinereus) is among the least recorded mammals of world. Most records come from Pakistan's northern mountainous regions. Presence this species has not been reported in Azad Jammu and Kashmir existing literature. Present study investigated presence Shounthar Valley district Neelum, Kashmir. Local residents, hunters Salaajeet collectors were consulted to identify probable habitat woolly area. After preliminary consultation, nine sites selected for further field investigation through attempts at direct observation animal its natural as well indirect evidence. Evidence suggesting was found all sites; these lay between 3270m 3660m elevation. A live captured area confirmed by measurements photographs be a squirrel, other provisionally based on calls, collection hairs, faecal material, etc. Occupied characterized steep slopes, difficult approach cliffs mixed vegetation including Abies pindrow, Betula utilis, Juniperus macropoda, Pinus wallichiana, Taxus Skimmia laureola, Potentilla eriocarpa, Poa bactriana, Bergenia stracheyi, Artemisia vulgaris Bistorta affinis. Habitat degradation due deforestation livestock grazing may major factors adversely affecting general might have negative consequences.
