摘要: Abstract We investigated the autoignition and self-heating of three different dried, wastewater treatment sludges origin share municipal industrial waste water. used a custom testing apparatus to study large (approx. 20 g) samples, where heat- mass transfer limitations are purposely relevant, as in real scale applications. tested particle size distributions, applying heating rates between 0.1 6.0 °C/min. proved that i) ignition can occur more than one step, ii) same solid behaves very differently by changing its distribution applied rate, iii) onset is controlled physical processes, rather chemical, iv) hazard determined (and be controlled) modifying size, bed structure density. conclude self-ignition largely (thus manageable) properties solids packing, given reactivity air always sufficiently high, once appropriate common) environmental conditions met. Consistently, assessment requires investigation at representative scale, processes have an appreciable impact. Conclusions obtained on expected apply any biomass, with comparable properties.
