摘要: Purpose : To evaluate the diuretic activity and acute toxicity profile of crude aqueous extract Achyranthes aspera using animal models. Methods Albino rats either sex were divided into five groups (six animals in each group). The control group received normal saline (10 ml/kg), reference furosemide mg/kg) test administered different doses (10, 30 50 by intra-peritoneal route, respectively. At end 6 h, urine was collected total volume excreted rat expressed as ml/6 h/100 g body weight. pH fresh samples, concentration urinary sodium potassium ions, Lipschitz value, index, saliuretic index Na+/K+ ratio also calculated to make comparison among groups. assessed mice. Results findings demonstrated that plant showed significant (p < 0.001), natriuretic 0.001) kaliuretic effects. However, during course study, remained unchanged. values for (III, IV & V) 2.3, 2.6 3.1, that, at dose mg/kg, 46 % compared with furosemide. No toxic effects were  observed mice even a higher 3000 mg/kg. Conclusion increases electrolytes dose-dependent manner. Therefore, this has potential. future studies should focus on isolating phytochemical component(s)  responsible diuresis. Keywords aspera, ratio, Saliuretic, Diuretic Natriuretic
