摘要: R-band photometric and velocity dispersion measurements for a sample of 452 elliptical S0 galaxies in 28 clusters are used to construct template Dn- relation. This relation is constructed by combining the data from clusters, under assumption that different have similar properties. The spectroscopic consist new as well published measurements, converted common system, presented an accompanying paper. resulting direct relation, corrected incompleteness bias, logDn ¼ 1:203 log þ 1:406; zero point has been defined requiring distant be at rest relative cosmic microwave background. consistent with value obtained using distance Virgo determined Cepheid period-luminosity Dn-relation leads peculiar 72 189 km s 1 Coma Cluster. scatter corresponds error about 20%, comparable values fundamental plane Correlations between residuals other parameters characterize cluster and/or galaxy stellar population also analyzed. inverse relations here recent studies field mapped ENEAR all-sky sample.
