摘要: The microcrystalline cellulose is an important ingredient in pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic and other industries. In this study, the cellulose, obtained from stalk of Sorghum caudatum was evaluated for its physical tableting characteristics with a view to assessing usefulness pharmaceutical tableting. caudatum, by sodium hydroxide delignification followed hypochlorite bleaching acid hydrolysis examined physicochemical properties comparison those well-known commercial grade, Avicel PH 101. extraction yield approximately 19%. material composed irregularly shaped fibrous particles had moisture content 6.2% total ash 0.28%. true density 1.46. flow indices showed that flowed poorly. hydration, swelling sorption capacities were 3.9, 85 24%, respectively. Tablets resulting these materials found be without surface defects, sufficiently hard having disintegration time within 15 min. study revealed compares favourably 101 conformed official requirement specified British Pharmacopoeia 1993 cellulose.
