摘要: The hook effect is a well-recognized problem that can occur in assays of most tumour markers, including alpha feto-protein (AFP). We present case hepatoblastoma baby. diagnosis was delayed as result unrecognized 'hooking' very high AFP concentration the automated immunoassay method used. falsely low obtained considered normal for patient's age and supported benign haemangioendothelioma. Liaison between clinical laboratory staff critical obtaining an accurate result, proceeding to liver biopsy establishing definitive hepatoblastoma. While reasons solutions have been well researched published, we believe presence extremely serum some patients means remains generate erroneously results despite assay reformulation by manufacturers. Therefore constant vigilance still needed.
