摘要: Summary A series of 1000 cases was selected, on the basis a clinical andlor post-mortem diagnosis cancer, out o f 4927 autopsies performed at Institute Pathologic Anatomy and Histopathology Turin University. The comparison between diagnoses pointed to an overall concordance with regard correct identification malignancy as underlying cause death 75%; if type primary site tumor also taken into account, only 56%. rate false-positive false-negative diagnoses, confirmation sensitivity index error estimate frequency different types tumors were computed. Pancreas, liver biliary tract appear be most difficult identify correctly during life; lung, stomach colorectal cancers, lymphomas leukemias show fairly high errors. Breast nervous system cancers overnotified. These results seem underscore necessity being very careful in drawing conclusions distribution cancer current mortality statistics.
