To drink or not to drink? Young Australians negotiating the social imperative to drink to intoxication

摘要: It is commonly argued that many young people in Australia inhabit a culture of intoxication. There has been little research on how find resistances within this culture. In article we document above the legal drinking age negotiate dominant cultural logic to intoxication and explore they conceptualise options not drinking. The analysis draws from 60 semi-structured, mixed-method interviews about alcohol use conducted 2007–8 Victoria, Australia. We strong social imperative for drink at events. Our results suggest choosing carries risk exclusion.
