Effect of Insulin on the Exaggerated Glucagon Response to Arginine Stimulation in Diabetes Mellitus

摘要: The effect of insulin on the glucagon response to intravenous arginine was studied in eight juvenile-type and six adult-onset diabetics. In diabetics, concomitant administration significantly blunted from a mean maximal rise 310 +/- 54 pg./ml. only 184 39 (p less than 0.01), about same as nondiabetics. patients, however, had no effect, being 250 50 without 307 71 with (N.S.). This study demonstrates that diabetics supraphysiologic quantities can reduce exaggerated normal, whereas adult-type group, it has apparent effect.
