摘要: Unsustainable hunting of wildlife or bushmeat for human consumption across the tropics threatens both populations and livelihoods people who depend on these resources. The probability that can be sustainable depends in part ecological conditions affect ‘supply’ ‘demand’ In this study, supply is estimated a number tropical ecosystem types by calculating theoretical ‘maximum offtake’ kg/km2 harvestable wildlife. Demand from observed harvests kg/km2. We examine how demand vary relatively undisturbed ecosystems, indexed annual rainfall. Supply potentially highest dry forests wetter savannah grasslands decreases moist more xeric grasslands. tends to exceed Analogous variation along rainfall gradient created conversion humans. hypothesise wild meat greater secondary forest–farm–fallow mosaics than test with available data. conclude will varies type degree disturbance should influence where land zoned protected areas harvests.
