摘要: Severa years ago I deduced from the distribution of mammalian cave-fauna Ireland that an unknown extent Older Drift existed in southern part country and end-moraine Newer Drift, bordering it on north, ran somewhere to south Central Plain. During a series excursions into Dublin Wicklow Hills company Mr. A. W. Stelfox, National Museum, Dublin, this moraine was readily detected skirting their flanks; subsequent researches led its complete mapping coast coast. When field-work complete, remark made by Stelfox me unexpected discovery already known H. Carvill Lewis. Priority is, therefore, his. His map conclusions, however, were based upon very limited number observations, course his various traverses country, where railways chanced cross line moraine. He surmised continuous through these localities, drew conjecture. It is consequently not surprising find only roughest agreement between uncertain suppositions unequivocal results more careful survey along whole length. Lewis, moreover, erred interpreting as certain other deposits, such river-gravels, which bear no relation it; he went still farther astray linking up with morainic features
