摘要: In human beings of both sexes, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) circulating in blood is mostly an adrenally secreted steroid whose serum concentration (in the micromolar range and 30–50% higher men than women) decreases with age, toward ≈20–10% its value young adults during 8th 9th decades. The mechanism action DHEA DHEAS poorly known may include partial transformation into sex steroids, increase bioavailable insulin-like growth factor I, effects on neurotransmitter receptors. Whether there a cause-to-effect relationship between decreasing levels age physiological pathological manifestations aging still undecided, but this obvious theoretical practical interest view easy restoration by administration. Here we report 622 subjects over 65 years studied for 4 since baseline values had been obtained, frame PAQUID program, analyzing functional, psychological, mental status community-based population south-west France. We confirm continuing decrease more women, even if retain levels. Significantly lower were recorded women cases functional limitation (Instrumental Activities Daily Living), confinement, dyspnea, depressive symptomatology, poor subjective perception health life satisfaction, usage various medications. men, was trend same correlations, though not statistically significant most categories. No differences found incident dementia following years. (but women), significantly associated increased short-term mortality at 2 after measurement. These results, established taking account corrections sex, indicators, suggest need further careful trials administration replacement doses humans. Indeed, first noted results such “treatment” are consistent correlations observed here psychological endogenous concentrations.
