摘要: Tobacco use is the most important preventable risk factor for premature death. The World Health Organization (WHO) Framework Convention on Control (FCTC), first international public health treaty, came into force in 2005. This paper reviews present status of tobacco control policies Korea according to WHO FCTC recommendations. In Korea, cigarette high among adult males (48.2% 2010), and prices are lowest Economic Cooperation Development countries with no tax increases since 2004. Smoke-free have shown incremental progress 1995, but smoking still permitted many indoor places. More than 30% non-smoking adults adolescents exposed second-hand smoke. Public education harmful effects currently insufficient current not been adequately evaluated. There comprehensive ban advertising, promotion, or sponsorship Korea. Cigarette packages text warnings only main packaging area, misleading terms such as "mild" "light" permitted. nationwide cessation clinics a Quitline service, services covered by insurance schemes there national treatment guidelines. sale minors prohibited law, poorly enforced. socioeconomic inequality prevalence has widened, although government considers reduction be goal. faltered recently priority should given development policies.
