摘要: In the sterile insect technique, insects are sterilized prior to release in areas where they pests. The males compete for and with fertile wild individuals mates, thus reducing population's reproductive rate. Tsetse fly (Glossina spp.) populations have been eradicated after of laboratory-bred flies by gamma irradiation. However, no studies exist on radiation-induced damage midgut morphology function radiation-sterilized insects. After G. palpalis p. gambiensis were subjected 130 Gy radiation, their recovery monitored electron microscopy. first sign was atrophy loss microvillous border from epithelial cells. rate cell degeneration increased, young as well old cells being affected cellular debris filling ectoperitrophic space. Muscle destroyed, patches basal lamina left bare, intracellular virus- rickettsia-like organisms became more frequent, many replacement unusually large. Partial occurred 10th day postirradiation. Such changes ultrastructure corresponding inhibition functions may increase susceptibility trypanosome infection.
