摘要: The question of whether physicians are cost effective in helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) transport remains an unresolved issue. During a four-month study period, all physician-specific contributions to care were recorded by means questionnaire that was completed the flight physician and nurse after each flight. In judgment nurse, made unique important contribution patient 38 174 flights (22%) during study. Judgment, most common contribution, cited on 29 (17%). Both skill contributed seven additional (4%), alone only two (1%). Judgment exercised frequently making diagnoses, initiating critical treatments, determining destination. this program providing is approximately $85,000 per year, or 7% annual budget $1.2 million. Flight make substantial HEMS operations, exercising regarding diagnosis, treatment, disposition 22% transports. benefits far outweigh cost.
