摘要: This work presents a new spatial dataset comprising biological information with analytical potential to advance reef conservation, fish studies and decision making at multiple levels in Brazil. Here we use hotspots as case study inform mismatches the current Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) network Currently, MPAs protects only 2% of Economic Exclusive Zone Both quantity protection level is uneven: while approximately 62% are for sustainable use, numbers area no-take very small. We report clear mismatch between Brazil, northeast coast state Espirito Santo being most critical areas conservation actions. However, can no longer be considered ‘quick fix’ tool, but rather, complex ecological/social-political operation. Therefore, networks should expanded these (including more zones) within broader planning lessen user conflicts.
