摘要: While ethical and empirical interest in so-called secondary variants incidental findings clinical genetics contexts is growing, critical reflection on the foundations of various recommendations proposed thus far largely lacking. We examine critique justifications three most prominent disclosure positions: briefly, geneticist decides, a joint decision, patient decides. Subsequently, instead immediately developing new option, we explore relevant foundational values norms, drawing normative literature. Four signposts are thereby developed to help guide discussions. These are: respectful sharing clinician’s expertise; transparent communication; epistemic modesty; respect for embedded nature patient. conclude by considering common current positions light four signposts.
