Prospects for detecting gamma rays from annihilating dark matter in dwarf galaxies in the era of the Dark Energy Survey and Large Synoptic Survey Telescope

摘要: Among the most stringent constraints on dark matter annihilation cross section are those derived from observations of dwarf galaxies by Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope. As current (e.g., Dark Energy Survey, DES) and future (Large Synoptic Survey Telescope, LSST) optical imaging surveys discover more Milky Way's ultrafaint satellite galaxies, they may increase Fermi's sensitivity to annihilations. In this study, we use a semianalytic model population predict characteristics dwarfs likely be discovered DES LSST, project how these discoveries will impact matter. While find that modest improvements likely, LSST unlikely than factor $\ensuremath{\sim}2--4$. However, outlook conservative, given our underpredicts number with large potential signals actually in Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Our simulation-based approach focusing Way demographics complements existing empirically based estimates.
