Better backs by better beds

摘要: Study design A "randomized"/stratified, single-blinded, parallel-group study. OBJECTIVE.: To evaluate 3 structurally different mattresses relative influence on patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). Summary of background data In several advertisements, it is proclaimed that certain have a positive effect LBP, and especially hard mattress commonly believed to effect. Methods One hundred sixty CLBP were randomized 1 groups, having mattress/bed mounted in their sleeping room for month. The beds were: (1) waterbed (Akva), (2) body-conforming foam (Tempur), (3) (Innovation Futon). At baseline after 4 weeks, blinded observer interviewed the LBP levels (0-10), daily function (activities living, 0-30), amount hours/night. Results Because dropout 19 before baseline, analyses performed 141 patients. During 1-month trial period another 27 stopped ahead time, which accounted by "worse case" as well "no-change" analyses. Both seemed superior mattress, when using probably most relevant "worst data. There no difference between effects water bed bed. Conclusion Waterbed mattress' did symptoms, sleep more positively apposed but differences small.
