摘要: Abstract 1. The effects of oxygen pressure, carbon monoxide, cyanide, and several copper-enzyme poisons on the elongation isolated sections Pisum stems Avena coleoptiles were studied in an effort to characterize terminal oxidase mediating this growth process. 2. Growth is independent partial pressure between 5 220% atmosphere, whereas markedly inhibited when falls below 10% atmosphere. 3. Prolonged exposure moderate positive pressures nitrogen superimposed upon 1 atm. air has little effect growth. 4. Twenty-four-hour monoxide inhibits sections. A 5:1 ratio causes 70% inhibition 50% ; at a 20:1 corresponding values are 86% approximately 99%. Upon return air, grow rapidly able large measure “catch up” controls. 5. essentially completely reversed by light all ratios. 6. may also be but insensitive poisons. 7. It concluded that enzyme cytochrome oxidase, mediated entirely enzyme.
