摘要: Measurements of the particulate material and water vapor released when cloud droplets evaporate are used to determine amount concentration contained in droplets. Droplets sampled with a counterflow virtual impactor (CVI), which extracts them from surrounding air evaporates flow warm, dry, filtered air. The resulting concentrations vapor, particle number, light scattering coefficient determined, allowing calculation average droplet radii, as well aqueous-phase non-volatile, soluble insoluble (“solute concentration”). By changing internal flows CVI, minimum radius is varied within interval 4–15 μm. obtained central Sweden summer 1986, near base stratocumulus clouds, show that solute increase size by roughly factor 3 over range 5–9 This observation consistent hypothesis condensational growth controls distribution base.
