Do antipsychotics limit disability in schizophrenia? A naturalistic comparative study in the community.

摘要: Background: Though antipsychotics are effective against symptoms of schizophrenia and prevent relapses, their effect on disability has not been studied in a comparative design. Aim: To compare patients receiving continuous antipsychotic treatment with that those or irregular rural community setting using naturalistic study Patients Methods: Disability was assessed 182 living Thirthahalli Taluk Shimoga District, Karnataka, Indian Evaluation Assessment Scale (IDEAS). Fifty (27.5%) were regular the previous 2 years for period when they antipsychotics. The remaining 132 (72.5%) had off-antipsychotics periods off-antipsychotics. Results: significantly less across all domains total IDEAS scores. Multivariate regression analysis showed status predicted scores after controlling effects confounding factors. Different levels exposure to associated different disability. Conclusions: Treatment is There an urgent need bring under umbrella treatment.
