摘要: Arab nationalism arose as an opposition movement in Ottoman Syria, Palestine, and Iraq around the turn of century. It remained a minority until collapse 1918, but after defeat it became overwhelmingly dominant these territories where, except for some Lebanese, all successful politicians were nationalists during interwar years. Just what meant to its proponents at time, however, has been difficult determine. The period only dimly figures studies nationalism. Full have devoted survivors from past, Rashid Rida⊃ Shakib Arsian, Sati⊂ al-Husri (al-Husari), relative newcomer whose greatest prominence was be 1940s 1950s, Muslim Brothers, who arrived on scene even later, influence lie future, who, like Rida⊃, not considered primarily nationalists. Otherwise, hardly scant handful pre-World War II nationalist writers, late 1930s, receive casual mention.
